“El chavo del ocho”
Roberto Gomez Bolaños

Growing up, watching this show about a homeless kid that lived in a barrel while interacting with different social classes in the neighborhood taught me about kindness, compassion and love.
“Mascara de alebrije”
I made this digital painting on 2020. Inspired by the dia de los muertos celebration. The illustration is a figure wearing an alebrije mask.
Alebrijes help souls navigate from one realm to another. The alebrijes were a creation by Pedro Linares
“Cantinflas”
Cantinflas was an actor during the Mexican golden era of cinema. He appeared on a lot of black and white movies as well as some in color. I know of him thanks to my grandma whom would sometimes play movies of his for us to watch. At the time they seemed so boring but as I grew older I appreciated more and more of the wittiness and poetry of his characters.
“Calaverita”
A homage to the times I would dress up to go trick or treat. In Mexico we wouldn’t say “trick or treat” instead we would ask for our calaverita which has a different history to it.

“El Chipote Chillon”
El chapulín colorado was another character of Roberto Gomez Bolaños. He was a superhero of sorts that happened to solve crimes and help people but what would seem as mere coincidences. However it was all due to his cleverness. This was his “weapon” of choice.
